I'm Running

Running. The thought of running can bring different feelings. Fear. Anticipation. Determination. Joy. Being a lifelong runner, the thought of putting on running shoes and hitting the pavement is a familiar feeling. I know what to expect. The first few minutes are spent warming up. The middle of the run falls into a rhythm. My mind settles in, and I know I can do it. The end of the run brings the desire to have a strong finish, followed by a sense of accomplishment.

Running for office. Choosing to enter into politics can bring the same feelings as taking a run. Fear. Anticipation. Determination. Joy.

FEAR

When contemplating if I should run for Opelika City Council Ward 4, fear was definitely present in the back of my mind. There's a lot to learn about running a campaign, and there are a lot of details to take care of. Will I have help? Will people be open to new leadership? I researched and spoke to many people, and I moved past the fear. I'm running for office!

ANTICIPATION

Now that the decision is made, I'm warming up at the beginning of my run. I'm looking forward to getting out and meeting with people and learning more about what the citizens of our community need and want. Campaign materials are in process, and that's exciting. Putting a car magnet with my campaign slogan was fun, and it starts conversations with people. With each new step, the anticipation grows.

DETERMINATION

I have always had a strong drive to accomplish things. Whether pushing myself to be a better runner, a better student, a better husband, or a better dad, I always strive to do my best. I will give 100% to the citizens of Opelika and work as hard for them as I do for my own family. I want our city to be the best!

JOY

Running for Opelika City Council Ward 4 will bring a sense of accomplishment when I have taken the time to listen to our people and learn more about their needs. I hope to be able to give them a voice as decisions are made for the direction of our great city. I love my home town, and keeping Opelika strong will bring me much joy!
